SALEM, OR — Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OR-OSHA) officials presented scholarships to seven students at a July 28 ceremony, according to a press release.
These Workers'' Memorial Scholarships awarded for the 2011-2012 academic year aid students who are a dependent or spouse of an Oregon worker who was fatally injured or permanently disabled while on the job, the release stated.
According to the release, money for the scholarships comes from a fund derived from OR-OSHA civil fines and penalties.
Award recommendations are made by OR-OSHA''s Safe Employment Education and Training Advisory Committee, the release noted.
