AUSTIN, TX — The facility services department at the University of Texas at Austin has no plans to layoff any of its employees, according to The Daily Texan.
The department anticipated university-wide budget cuts for the upcoming academic year and planned ahead for the reduction, the article stated.
According to the article, the move allowed the department to reduce the costs of their services, while maintaining the level of service.
The department was able to reduce spending by offering retirement incentives and eliminating vacant positions, the article noted.
"We''re not laying any people off," said Steve Kraal, senior associate vice president in the Office of Campus Planning and Facilities Management.
"We were planning for this budget reduction to happen. So we did not fill all our positions in anticipating that," Kraal added.
