SAN FRANCISCO — Two window washers were left to dangle 16 stories off the ground after a support pole gave way, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The window washers were cleaning the top level of a Mission Bay condominium when their steel support pole snapped, leaving the men with only their safety harnesses to keep them from plunging to the ground, the article stated.

According to the article, the scaffolding was suspended from two davits, one of which gave way and plummeted to the courtyard below, leaving the scaffolding in a vertical position.

Raul Aguilar and his nephew, Benito Aguilar, were both wearing safety harnesses, which were attached to the remaining davit, the article noted.

Both men were treated at San Francisco General Hospital for unspecified injuries, the article added.

A spokeswoman for Cal/OSHA has said there will be an investigation into the cause of the accident.
