BURNABY, BC — A Burnaby Village Museum custodian was recognized for his weight loss, according to the Burnaby Now.

Mark George, an auxiliary custodian at the museum, was recognized in May for his loss of 86.5 pounds, the article stated.

According to the article, George lost the weight with help from the Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) group.

"I first joined TOPS because of a medical challenge. My doctor kept telling me to lose weight, but he didn''t tell me about the consequences of remaining overweight. When my doctor retired and a new doctor took over, she told me ''Mark, you can continue to gain weight but if you do you''ll need five injections a day to manage Type II diabetes,''" George said.

"I hate needles so I decided I had to do something. I heard of TOPS from neighbors of ours," George added.

TOPS Club Inc. is an original, nonprofit, weight-loss support and wellness education organization that was established in 1948 to champion weight-loss support and success, the article noted.
