KAHOKA, MO — Both elementary schools in the Clark County R-1 School District have been closed indefinitely, according to the Quincy Herald-Whig.

Superintendent Ritchie Kracht canceled the first two days of school, scheduled for yesterday and today, at both Black Hawk Elementary School and Running Fox Elementary School because mold has invaded the majority of the classrooms at both schools, the article stated.

According to the article, the schools could be closed anywhere from a few days to a few weeks while a contractor rids the schools of the mold problem.

"I really, truly do not know how long it''s going to take, other than it''s going to be several days for sure," Kracht said.

Kracht attributed the mold problem to high humidity levels over the last few months, which have seen heavy rains and oppressive heat in Clark County, the article noted.
