SOUTH BERWICK, ME — A spic and span school will welcome Central Elementary School students in a few weeks, thanks in large part to the schools custodians, led by a mother and son team, according to the Sea Coast.

Jan Vancour, 76, jokes that she taught her son, Kevin, everything he knows about keeping floors polished and removing pesky black scuff marks, the article stated.

According to the article, Vancour began working at the school in the mid-1980s, quickly becoming the head custodian; in 1991, her son Kevin, a former construction employee, joined her.

"It''s an old school, built in 1925, but we take pride in it," Jan said.

"It takes lot of work for this old school, but we keep up with it," Jan added.

She works the night shift from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., while her son works 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., the article noted.
