HASTINGS, MI — Bids to privatize custodial services at Hastings Area Schools are being reviewed and a contract could be awarded at the next board meeting on September 19, according to The Grand Rapids Press.
The Hastings Education Support Personnel Association (HESPA) custodians were invited to submit a bid, but declined, the article stated.
According to the article, the district received seven bids and has interviewed three companies to take over custodial services throughout the district.
In the first year, the district looks to save nearly $250,000 by eliminating the current wages and benefits of the 17 in-house custodians, the article noted.
