Hill & Markes opens new facility

AMSTERDAM, NY — Hill & Markes Inc., a family-based wholesale distributor of food service disposables, industrial packaging, janitorial products and office supplies to Upstate New York and Vermont, officially opened their new facility with a ribbon cutting ceremony, according to a press release.

The new combination warehouse and office space is in the process of becoming Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified at the Gold level, the release stated.

Andrea Packer, vice president of marketing for Hill & Markes, said, "The concept for the new 130,000-square-foot warehouse started over seven years ago to improve efficiencies by tripling the capacity of the new warehouse while using the same amount of energy and supporting company growth. We are proud to share good news with the community and very excited to see this project come to fruition in a bad economy."

Construction began in June 2010 and was completed in July 2011 for a total cost of $12 million, the release noted.

Hill & Markes, which employs 170 people, proudly uses they products and equipment they sell to clean and maintain the state-of-the-art facility, the release added.
