UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA — Custodian Gregg West is adored by parents and students alike, according to the Upper St. Clair Patch.
West, the head custodian at Streams Elementary — affectionately referred to as Mr. Gregg — is known for going above and beyond the call of duty as a custodian, the article stated.
According to the article, when the students arrive each day, West greets them by name and gives high-fives at lunchtime.
"I love doing what I''m doing. The kids are just great. It''s the best job I''ve ever had," said West.
When West lost his job during Pittsburgh''s steel collapse, he thought his life was over; soon after, he got his first job as a custodian with the Upper St. Clair School District at Baker Elementary, the article noted.
West says he feels a certain responsibility to help teach the students good character traits, the article added.
"My grandfather was a Methodist minister and we went to church and we had to pay attention ... We learned about being a good person and honoring everyone. I had three sisters and brothers and we learned to share because we had to. Let''s face it, parents are busy these days. So, I try to teach the kids respect," said West.
