NEW ORLEANS — Parents walked out of a St. John the Baptist Parish School Board meeting after the board refused to allow a parent to speak, according to The Times-Picayune.
The board had been advised by its legal counsel not to allow parent Jennifer Frizzell to address the board because of pending litigation regarding the problems at the school, the article stated.
According to the article, the district has been battling moisture-control problems for more than a year and a half, stemming from problems with a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) unit.
Parents are most concerned with mold inside the school: Frizzell claims her eight-year-old daughter suffers from a constant cold and has now developed asthma, the article noted.
Superintendent Courtney Millet has assured parents there is surface mildew inside the school but that it is not dangerous, the article added.
