BOZEMAN, MT — Five new cases of whooping cough were confirmed by health officials over the weekend, according to KECI-TV.
One confirmed case came out of Sacajawea Middle School, the first case identified outside of Bozeman High School, where the majority of infected cases were coming from, the article stated.
According to the article, one pertussis, or whooping cough, case in a school is not unsual, but they are working to make sure it doesn''t spread to other middle school students.
In many of the confirmed positive cases, the infected was already on antibiotics to treat the infection, the article noted.
To help fight the spread, health workers put 350 people on antibiotics, but that only provides protection for 10 days, the article added.
