NANUET, NY — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended its deadline for residents and businesses that suffered damages from Tropical Storm Irene to register a claim, according to the Nanuet Patch.

The new deadline to register is now December 15, 2011, the article stated.

According to the article, the decision was made due to a high volume of registrations.

"Due to an overwhelming response, residents affected by [Tropical Storm] Irene are still able to register a claim with FEMA," said County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef.

"We appreciate FEMA''s willingness to extend its deadline so residents can take full advantage of any assistance they can provide," Vanderhoef added.

Residents can register or check the status of an application online or call 1-800-621-FEMA, the article noted.
