MINNEAPOLIS — Custodians have voiced concern over the University of Minnesota (UM) implementing a new "team cleaning" policy, according to The Minnesota Daily.
Custodians first began questioning the new policy over four months ago, but say their dispute has yet to be settled, the article stated.
According to the article, Teamsters Local 320, the union representing custodial workers, filed a grievance against the university, saying the team cleaning policy was a violation of the workers'' contract.
The union and the university were set to begin arbitration on Monday, but scheduling conflicts have pushed the start of talks back by at least a month, the article noted.
The current custodial contract states that each custodian can bid on a specific area to clean; the union claims that team cleaning violates that clause of the contract, the article added.
