MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO — St. Louisans donated thousands of used teddy bears to M&I Bank for the "Tired Teddies" drive, according to KTVI-TV.
Stanley Steamer then stepped in to make the donated bears look like new, the article stated.
"We pre-treat the animals. Then, we clean them with our carpet-cleaning truck the same way we would clean a couch in a home," said Susanna Davidson.
According to the article, one Stanley Steamer technician would not stop cleaning any of the bears until it was safe enough for his own three-year-old daughter.
"We use an enzyme treatment, so once they''re dry we''re finished with them they''re all clean. They''re disinfected, and ready to go to a new home," Davidson added.
The toys will go to the Salvation Army, highway patrols and local children''s hospitals, the article noted.
