NEW YORK — A freak elevator accident that tragically killed one person last month was the result of maintenance work, according to the New York Post.
Inspectors with the city''s Buildings Department (DOB) have determined that repairs done by contractor Transel Elevator were likely a factor in the December 14 tragedy, the article stated.
According to the article, the accident claimed the life of Suzanne Hart, 41, an advertising executive.
Since the accident, DOB inspectors have undertaken the largest elevator sweep in history, examining more than 600 elevators citywide, the article noted.
While various violations were issued, Hart was the only fatality, the article added.
