CHICAGO — As members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) prepared for contract negotiations, nearly 3,000 members occupied the plaza outside of Chase Bank, according to WBBM-TV.

The current contract with commercial office buildings, the city of Chicago and several public school districts is set to expire April 8, and negotiations for a new contract are slated to begin in about a week, the article stated.

According to the article, janitors are looking for wage increases, saying it''s nearly impossible to provide for their families with the wage they are currently paid.

Union members don''t buy the argument that business is still suffering the recession and that workers might have to sacrifice, the article noted.
