School fire claims custodian's life

EVANGELINE PARISH, LA — A longtime Vidrine Elementary School janitor was the victim of an early morning fire at the school, according to the Daily World.

Donald Ray Thomas, 58, had worked at Vidrine for the past 22 years, the article stated.

According to the article, the fire broke out in a building that once housed the school''s cafeteria just before 6 a.m. on Monday.

Mamou District Fire Chief Garry Reed said it appeared that debris from the roof trapped Thomas in the building, the article noted.
