The answer:

Probably the two most popular methods for commercial upholstery cleaning are hot water extraction and shampoo. Heavily soiled upholstery may require a pre-conditioning pre-scrub prior to extraction plus an absorbent towel/acidic treatment to help it dry after cleaning. A soil retardant shampoo is effective on mild to light soil. Make sure you have proper training before tackling upholstery.
