MILWAUKEE, WI — A Riverside High School custodian was the unexpected winner of a citywide contest, according to WISN-TV.

What made Sherman Dixon''s win surprising was the fact that he won a citywide teacher appreciation contest held by McDonald''s and radio station V100, the article stated.

"Every school needs a Sherman Dixon, and I''m really happy that Riverside has you. Thank you so much," said Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) Superintendent Dr. Gregory Thornton.

According to the article, Dixon was chosen because of his strong positive influence on the kids at Riverside.

In addition to being named the MPS teacher appreciation winner, Dixon won round-trip tickets for two and passes to the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, the article noted.
