TYNGSBORO, MA — Rita Holland''s first day as a janitor at Greater Lowell Technical High School was May 23, 1975, according to the Sentinel and Enterprise.

Last Wednesday, after exactly 37 years, Holland, now 87, was surrounded by family, friends and coworkers as she celebrated her retirement, the article stated.

According to the article, for the past 37 years and for nine classes each day, Holland has mopped the locker rooms after the girls shower before they go into the pool and after the girls shower when they get out of the pool.

Holland planned to retire when her husband was ready; however, when he died before reaching retirement, Rita kept on working, the article noted.

"It''s with mixed emotions here that she''s retiring because I still think she has 20 more years left," said Holland''s boss, Mark Byrne, director of plant services.

Holland won''t slow down in retirement, planning to continue to pursue her passion for travel, the article added.
