SOUTH HADLEY, MA — Every year, the South Hadley Lions Club names a Citizen of the Year, according to The Republican.
This year, the Lions bestowed the title of Citizen of the Year on George Perreault, an 88-year-old former custodian, the article stated.
According to the article, even though Perreault retired from his position as custodian for South Hadley schools after decades on the job, he never felt his work was over.
For 20 years after his retirement, Perreault was an active driver for the Meals on Wheels program, getting food to those in need of assistance, the article noted.
On Saturday, May 12, Lions Club President Janice DeToma presented Perreault with the award on the stage of Town Hall, in front of more than 100 people who had gathered for the meeting, the article added.
Of the South Hadley schools where he worked, Mosier Elementary was his favorite, "It was a nice school. I was head custodian, and I had a nice crew," he recalled.
