RACINE, WI — The SC Johnson Young Leaders Scholarship program has awarded $295,000 in scholarships to students in the Racine Unified School District who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school, according to a press release.
The program, now in its 10th year, granted 16 new scholarships and renewed 44 scholarships for the 2012-2013 academic year, the release stated.
"SC Johnson is proud to support the students in our community at such an important and exciting time in their lives. Without financial assistance, many of these young people might not realize their dream of pursuing higher education," said Fisk Johnson, chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of SC Johnson.
"Being able to help students in our own community offset the ever-increasing education costs is rewarding for us and supports SC Johnson''s core principles. We are committed to helping our community and preparing tomorrow''s leaders," Johnson added.
According to the release, SC Johnson established the program in 2002 and has assisted nearly 175 students with more than $2.8 million in scholarships paid since the program''s inception.
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must demonstrate economic need, have a minimum cumulative grade point average and plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited college, university or vocational-technical school, the release noted.
