OLYMPIA, WA — For the first time in eight years, the sandstone dome on Washington''s Capitol building will be cleaned to remove nearly a decade worth of organic growth, according to KUOW-FM.

Using pressure washers and lifting apparatuses, three workers from Western Waterproofing will blast off the moss and other matter that have turned the tan sandstone dome to black, the story stated.

Although the trio of workers say this job is really no different than cleaning a sports stadium, they must be careful as to not cause damage to the 84-year-old structure, the story noted.

According to the story, after thoroughly washing the dome, the workers will go back and touch-up the mortar on the seams to prevent any leakage issues.

The cleaning project is estimated to cost just over $1 million and will be completed before winter hits, the story added.
