LATHAM, NY — October 2 marks National Custodial Workers Recognition Day.
Administrators of public schools and other institutions and facilities have set recogniton lunches, etc. for this week.
The industry has developed some of its own recognition programs designed to maintain high morale and improve training.
In 1986, PortionPac Chemical Corp., Chicago, launched "Janus." Basically, the program honors achievement with choices of awards tokens, and certificate displays. The program can serve as a foundation to educate others, enhancing the awareness of the housekeeping/custodial staff and the work they do. Those others, in turn, make it easier, through self-policing and awareness to maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment.
